A glow-in-the-dark party looks effortless online. In reality, the best ones follow a few rules: clear outfit guidance, skin-safe paint, and a simple cleanup plan.
What to wear
Best: white or bright-coloured clothing. Neon paint glows most on white.
Avoid: delicate fabrics, expensive clothes, dark materials that won't photograph well.
Accessories: white or bright headbands, neon face paint on cheekbones or arms.
Paint safety (what to check)
Skin-safe, water-based UV/blacklight paint only.
Avoid glitter-based or acrylic paint near faces.
Have wet wipes on hand for drips or accidental eye contact.
Check if your venue uses face-safe blacklight paint — Sketch Studios uses skin-safe paints as standard.
Cleanup tips
Water-based UV paint washes off skin easily with soap and water.
Clothing: rinse cold water first, then normal wash. Most water-based glow paint comes out.
Floors: most venues handle cleanup — confirm this before booking.
Photo tips (blacklight photography)
Use portrait mode on iPhones — it handles low light better than standard mode.
Turn off your flash. Natural blacklight exposure gives the glow effect.
Designate a "photo wall" or backlit area for group shots.
Encourage kids to hold their painted artwork near the light source for the best glow effect.
Running the activity
A typical glow paint session at Sketch Studios runs 2–3 hours and includes guided painting, free painting, and a group photo segment. Staff manage the paint and equipment — parents don't need to do anything.
